How do you look after a hat?
Store your hat dry and away from direct sunlight, ideally on a hat rack or upside down on its crown, not its brim. This will prevent it from flattening over time.
While you may have heard you can wash a hat in the dishwasher or washing machine, it's best to stick with hand washing to avoid bending the hat out of shape. Some parts of your hat, specifically the bill, are structured items, making hand washing helpful for preserving its specific shape.
Use a purpose made hat brush to gently remove dirt and dust from the hat.
Use a lightly dampened cloth dipped in soapy water (or suitable mild detergent) and pat dry with a separate dry cloth. Strong chemical cleaners should not be used as they may cause colour discolouration. If your hat gets wet, it should be dried as soon as possible to avoid shrinkage.
Hats that are worn more than 3 times a week should be washed weekly.
Hats that are worn at least once a week should be washed at least once a month.
Is it better to wash hats in hot or cold water?
Set on a cold or warm wash and rinse cycle. Do not use a hot water cycle. Remove the hat once the wash cycle is complete, let air dry. Never put a hat through the dryer.
How do you get sweat stains out of a hat?
Fill a sink or bucket with cool or warm water. Then, put in a couple of drops of laundry detergent or a tablespoon of a stain removal powder. Try not to use a detergent with bleach or a bleach alternative so you can preserve the hat's color. Soak the hat in the water for about 15 minutes.
